Nigeria the
giant of Africa and Africa’s largest economy is home to 300 tribes with diverse
cultural heritage. She is blessed with Oil and other natural resources with
makes her the centre of attraction for investors as well as a tourist
destination.
The country which was once an ambiance of beauty is now gradually deteriorating
as insurgent eats her like a cancan worm.
It has now become a den for kidnapping, banditry, terrorism, rape, and all
manner of atrocities.
The Government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari seems to have
exhausted all avenues to curb the security challenges claiming the lives of
innocent citizens on daily basis.
All hopes are not lost, Nigeria will be great again and regain back her glory
if the Government can embrace the following key point.
What are some of the things the Government of Nigeria can do to stop this
Insurgent?
1. The President Should Address the Nation
The President for some time now has not addressed Nigerians over the security challenges facing the Nation. Mind you the first duty of any President is to secure the lives and properties of citizens.
2. The Stakeholders Should Play Their Roles
Aside from President Buhari calling the house to order, the stakeholders should also call their subject to an order. When I mean stakeholders in the context I’m referring to religious heads, traditional rulers, Governors, Senators, Honourables, major players in the Industries, etc.
This set of people are very influential as they have many followers who are willing to die for them and will also listen to them.
This will help liberate the mind of the people and make them understand that we are one, and we are more powerful and greater when united.
3. Withdraw Military from the East
You can’t win a war when you are fighting different territories at the same time. The Nigerian Army is divided and it’s having a severe impact on their performance.
The Eastern part of Nigeria is not the major threat, but rather the North is the threat. It is said that Boko Haram has taken over some territories and Nigeria needs to win back her territories.
You can imagine the lives of the people in those areas taken over by Boko Haram; this is the main war and not the Biafrans.
4. Engage the Youths
It is said that the youths are the leaders of tomorrow; this is true so they need to be included at all levels. Nigerian youths are hardworking, innovative, and willing to embrace dialogue and opportunities. The youth need to occupy high positions and have a say in the Government.
The Government should engage the youth in productive conversation, designs a project that will liberate them such as the NYSC which brought youths from all corners of Nigeria together.
Nigerian youths have divided minds. Mind you, the Boko Haram, Bandits, Fulani Herdsmen and IPOP are all youths. If you give them a say in the Government, jobs, and a sense of belonging, no youth will want to carry arms and endanger their lives.
Inject money into the economy targeted to meeting the projects designed for the youths and follow up to ensure that the purpose for which the funds were dispensed is achieved.
Just recently there was a rumor that Boko Haram is giving N20,000 as Salah gifts to its newly recruited. Just Imagine that.
5. Slash Salaries and Benefits of Top Government Officials
At this point, no Senator or House of Reps member should be given car allowance, furniture allowance, house allowance, etc. They already have all these things.
Nigerians especially the youths believe that the National cake that is supposed to go round is being enjoyed only by top Government Officials. We are in trying times so their salaries should also be slashed in half for the betterment of the Nation.
6. Equip the Army and Motivate Them
Nigeria Military are not motivated and worse they are not well equipped.
These are some of the points I think will help solve the insecurity challenges of the Country.
